Greetings to all! Robert Bondurant here, primed and pumped for another Festival Season. Once again, I’ll be aiding and abetting the Eargasms cause; Lindsay, despite the herculean efforts he’ll shortly undertake to prove otherwise, really is only one person. Like last year, I’ll focus on Piccolo Spoleto events, but once the ball starts to roll… Well, any seasoned Spoletian knows just how fast and furious the eargasms can fly!
And now for a little Eargasms insider info…
I had a wonderful chat with Lara Wilson, one of the founders of Charleston Chamber Opera this afternoon. What you already may know is that her talented troupe stand ready to unleash a live mix-tape like production, combining opera with theater, essentially creating a new avenue into both realms. This production includes Menotti’s hilarious chamber opera, The Telephone, and Hoiby’s reflection on famous chef Julia Child, Bon Appetit! Today I learned that’s not all! Sneaking its way onto the bill of fare will be not one, but two more chamber operas. Thomas Pasatieri’s The Women should provide a bit of levity, emphasis on the “should…” And the whole show kicks off with Dominick Argento’s Miss Manners on Music. Now there’s a subject I don’t want to be reporting about this season… Stay tuned for my preview on this performance, and don’t miss this opportunity to welcome a new opera company (with a twist…) to Charleston! Performances will be June 4th, 5th, and 6th, 7:30 pm at the Circular Congregational Church.
Happy Spoletoing!
