Sure, the festival’s just about over, and the sense of artistic overload is building to the bursting point. But here’s one more remarkable event – not an official part of the festival – that you just may have to hear to believe.
Tomorrow (Sunday) at 3:00 PM, I’m proud to host a very special piano recital at Millennium Music. Performing will be a 12-year-old boy named Micah McLaurin, who’s been playing for four years now. Micah will play a fifty-minute program featuring the music of Bach, Schubert, Diabelli, Poulenc, Rachmaninoff and others – all from memory. This boy has won just about every state award and competition possible at his age – and will appear in an upcoming ETV broadcast showcasing South Carolina’s finest young musicians. We packed over 100 people into the classical room for his recital here at Millennium last year, when he was eleven.
Every now and then, gifts of talent beyond all reckoning and imagination are bestowed upon the very young – and Micah has been thus blessed. You will hear musicality and emotional depth from this boy that few adults can match. If you want to believe in miracles again, be here tomorrow and hear one for yourself.
