Me? Well, if you’ve ever shopped for classical CDs at Millennium Music, you’ve probably encountered crazy Lindsay, the resident classical geek (glasses, big hair, even bigger mouth). I’ve been writing – both locally & nationally – about great music for years, and it’s my honor & privilege to cover a big chunk of the classical end of Spoleto for the City Paper. Opera, orchestral, intermezzi, modern, choral, chamber – you name it, I’ll be there. So you can count on me for a pretty broad view of the whole shebang.
In preparation, I’ve interviewed a bunch of festival movers & shakers: Maestros Villaume, Flummerfelt, Bicket (Merlin conductor) and Miller (Westminster Choir’s new man in charge), plus beloved Chamber Music guru Charles Wadsworth. They’ve all shared some bloggable info & insights with me that I’ll be gradually passing on to you in the coming days & weeks. I have some especially juicy tidbits of privy advance program info from Dr. W to share with you as well – stuff that you’re not likely to get from anybody else.
Also – Millennium Music is in a very central spot during the festival – and guess where all the musicians hang out between gigs and rehearsals? I’ll be yakking with dozens of them as the festival proceeds – so I can be a pretty good source for unfounded rumors, malicious gossip, and assorted festival propaganda. If it’s bloggable, you better believe I’m on it.
And, PLEASE, folx – Spoleto commentary isn’t just about our exalted observations & opinions. I invite you to shed your inhibitions and get in on the action. That’s the beauty of blogs. So go ahead, leave a comment: I don’t care if you wanna praise our brilliant analyses, offer your own insights, or tell us we’re fulla bull. Go ahead, I dare ya to puncture my hot-air balloon and tell me off. Whatever – just get involved, and let’s make this an interactive thing that’ll mean something once everything’s played and done.
