OK (blush!), you know what I’m talking about. Patrick Sharbaugh, of Spoleto Buzz fame, came up with that one (gotta give credit where it’s due). But I can’t think of a better way to describe that giddy rush – that fleeting moment of unbearable beauty, ecstasy or blinding insight that only a piece of really great music can bring you. We classical geeks live for those eargasmic moments. And – glory be – Spoleto even gives us the rare chance for multiple eargasms – day after day, for two-plus freakin’ weeks.

No wonder some of us go absolutely nuts during the festival, and just about kill ourselves bouncing our butts all over town day after day, in quest of that next shattering eargasm. And a few truly insane diehards (like me) – even after our daily musical orgies are done, we go home and blog about them until the wee hours. Sharing it all with you is one of the best ways to calm down my over-stimulated pleasure receptors.

And, besides revealing the most intimate and heartfelt details (sigh!) of my daily eargasms, there are other reasons why you may want to follow our humble blog this year. We have a bigger crew of classical aficionados on duty than ever before. Fellow classical freaks and regular City Paper writers Jonathan Sanchez and Fernando Rivas stand ready to cover this ‘n that, and – for the first time – my very savvy Millennium Music sidekick, Robert Bondurant, will be prowling the back streets, in search of mostly Piccolo Spoleto thrills that he’ll report on. Trust me – in case you’re not in the music loop around here – these gents all know their stuff, and will be letting you in on their own eargasmic experiences as the festival rolls ever onward.

More to follow about yours truly – and how we wanna do this Eargasms blog thing.
